Snappy H’appy Photo Challenge-Week 2

Week 2 of the Snappy H’appy Photo Challenge sponsored by JX and Meghan is all about Saturation and HDR. For the particulars on the photo challenge visit here

Here is Hubble with his choice of backyard balls-he was very anxious to get through this so he could go play-

I will admit I am still trying to understand the logistics of HDR-one thing I have learned in using the apps available for the iPhone is it is very easy to overdo the effects very quickly, which sometimes can be a good thing, but probably most times, it might be better to rein it in a bit-I used two different HDR apps; one was Snapseed HDR, while the other was  JixiPix’s Simply HDR/Art Effects selection. I will admit, I prefer the JixiPix one more, because I often want more of an “artful” feel to my images than realistic ones. And that is just me and how I approach my work. The same probably goes for saturation-a little bit can go a long way, but overly saturated elements in an image can also be very effective as well.

So here are the “before” and “after” of Master Hubble choosing his backyard ball-(he ended up playing with the green one-)

Today’s Dog Quote:

“Dogs, for a reason that can only be described as divine, have the ability to forgive, let go of the past, and live each day joyously. It’s something the rest of us strive for.”

For today: Play Ball!

  1. Hubble & Balls 3 is awesome! It’s almost like his staring at different planets because of the swirls in the balls. I love the effect and have got to check out the app and see if it’s available on Google Play store!

And it’s true about the individual’s choice in how to use HDR. I love to go for more realistic, but I totally love what you have done with #3! *2 thumbs up*

    • Thank you so much JX-do check out the apps-Jixi Pix is the company and I know they also do the apps for desktops as well-appreciate the opportunity to participate and look forward to next week’s challenge! Pets and hugs to Donna! 😉

  3. I agree with JX. In this case the more fantastical image (3) works perfectly for the subject! Its vibrancy and intensity push the balls and Hubble into a magical dimension. I think the stark background helps in this case. Love it! Thanks for joining Snappy H’appy again this week.

  6. Some of the best HDR work that I’ve seen. You’re using the process appropriately, rather than just using it because it’s there. I agree that the JixiPix is the best of the versions.

  9. I like that out-of-this-world JX image!! And even though Hubble might have chosen the green other-worldly ball, he sure is staring at the orange one! I’ve often wondered what my little girl Gracie would do if I threw three Kong toys to her at once. Might have to try that someday…
