Snappy H’appy Photo Challenge-Week 5

Wow! Here we are at Week 5 of the Snappy H’appy Photo Challenge hosted by Jx at weliveinaflat.com and Meghan at firebonnet. For more information check out the challenge here.

This week’s challenge is Light Leak Effects and assisting me is none other than Master Hubble. He was crushed to find out that the book he was *reading* was really not about him. I told him he is still out of this world.

For the light leak effects I used two different apps: Snapseed’s Retrolux and Picture Show’s Light Leaks filters with Hubble in a Lomo format and a Holga format. I liked both-I found the Snapseed to give you a bit more control with the light, while the Picture Show  effects can be applied to any of the many different filters that app offers. So all in all, an interesting challenge to work with.

Today’s Dog Quote (which seems especially appropriate for this dog):

“You’re like a little wild thing that was never sent to school.”
― Mary Oliver, Dog Songs

Images taken with iPhone 4s and processed with Snapseed, PhotoToaster and Picture Show

For today: Hubble on Hubble

  1. lol, who came first, the book or the dog? I like the ones where the light leak obscured the book or the dog, like a nebula misted out of the book and surrounded either. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks so much Annabelle-what it takes is a lot of patience. Those two shots were the result of around 20 some shots taken. I just put him next to the book and waited-fortunately the pages must have had an interesting smell because he soon was poking his nose around the book-thanks so much for looking!

  3. I can tell Hubble is not really impressed with the contents of that book 🙂 Really cool shots, Meg. I liked ‘Snapspeed2’ the most. Excellent effects!

    • You are absolutely right Uday-he lost interest once he realized that it was not about him-as you can tell, he lives in a very Hubble-centric world-Snapseed #2 was my favorite as well-I liked the way the light worked in that shot-Thanks so much for visiting Uday-we always look forward to hearing from you!

  4. Everyone like something different. I like Hubble “Lomo” and “Holga”, I think because they are more dramatic, and because they “erase” the line of the sheet that is being used as a backdrop for the photo shoot. And by the way – precious adorable dog!! Sorry I am just now catching up with everyone on the photo challenge; had family in the hospital so been a bit busy here.

    • It is interesting to me what images drew people-the line of the sheet has been a constant battle in processing-I keep looking for an app that helps to retouch photos-I thought I had found one in Retouch, but it is unpredictable (at least to me) in terms of its capabilities. I think I may just have to break down and create a backdrop that covers wall and table to erase the line-yes Hubble is quite a little fellow- he is a rescue that has bounced back from adversity in a big way-
Thank you for taking the time to visit and comment and best wishes to family-hope all is well for you-

      • All is well – Dad recuperating from two weeks at hospital after knee replacement surgery.
Fortunately for me my dog is small so easier to “fit” her into smaller space for photos. Same with cats. When I have to photograph them with my products I often use my off-white bedspread for a neutral background. That works well for me!

      • The sheet is a good idea-I read somewhere that a photographer I admire a great deal uses a white sheet, a black sheet, a piece of clothesline, a reflector and natural light for her *studio*-she takes amazing photographs. Hubble is little so he is definitely easier to work with-Jack Henry on the other hand takes up a bit more space, so we need more background-that is why I painted the walls-but I am seriously thinking of trying sheets to see how that works-

Hope your father makes a good recovery-my mother had both her knees replaced-she has often remarked it was worth the pain and effort to get her mobility back-

  5. Genius theme… I hope you told Hubble that he is actually the center of the universe he is viewing.. so in a way it IS about him. 😉 I flip flop between liking the Snapseed results and the lomo/holga ones. Very different moods. All are terrific. Good luck with the background dilemma… I’m not bothered by it really… it gives a sense of being down to earth. BUT I can understand if you want to really make a stronger art statement (which you absolutely can with your animals and aesthetics) you want a smoother more unified (and not distracting) background. Wonderful response as usual. Hubble is awesome.

    • Oh yes-I tell Hubble everyday that he is *out of this world* and certainly the center of our universe here-I run hot and cold with the background too-but that is what experimenting is about, right? Thanks so much for visiting Meghan and commenting-I so appreciate it!

  6. Thanks Norma so much-the book was a chance find at the library and the rest of it just unfolded (I love that when that happens!) and Hubble definitely showed himself to be up for this challenge-thanks so much for visiting!
